Chapter 32

Devon

Iburn my eyes into his back, his group of friends cackle and howl at something he’s said. Each one of them is built like a brick shithouse, the opposite of him.

“Excuse me, Reed.” I slide out of the booth, taking a deep breath and straightening out my long-sleeve top.

My military boots seem to thump under my feet as I make my way over to him, each one heavier than the last.

I tap his shoulder. The rest of them drop silent, focusing their attention on me.

He turns, scanning me once before turning back around.

I clear my throat. “Tommy.” He ignores me.

“Tommy.” I repeat, flexing my jaw and rubbing my hand over it, beginning to grow more irritated.

“Fuck off, Devon.” He spits, barely twisting his head to the side.

Fine.

I shove the back of him, catching him off guard.

“Get your sleazy ass out of here, this isn’t your turf.” I grit through my teeth, his presence unwarranted.

His guys step to the side, trying to puff their chests out, as if it matters. I see Reed move out of the booth and head towards me in my peripheral, my gaze fully attended to my brother.

“Oh, come on, Devon. Don’t be like that. I’m just here for a quiet drink in my friendly neighborhood.” He smirks, his speech slightly slurred. Brilliant.

“I’d prefer if you’d leave.” I state.

He turns away to his group, mimicking my words and pulling faces whilst they all howl with laughter. He’s wearing a white tee, imprinted with images of playboy bunnies, their nipples starred out.

“Some of us still enjoy life, Devon. Not all of us are bitter over a suicidal piece of pussy.” He cackles whilst my fists ball at my sides.

“That’s enough.” Reed, steps forward, honing in on Tommy.

“You got one of your bitches to speak for you? Tsk, you’re just as pathetic as she was. You know, her cunt was pretty fucking tight, I can see the –”

I throw my fist forward, hitting him directly in the nose. The force behind it nearly throws me off balance, his body crashing backwards into his group.

The bar erupts into carnage, the sounds of scraping chairs, glass smashing, girls screaming.

I’m grabbed by the biggest guy, he tries to get me in a headlock but I counteract with an elbow to the stomach. He keels over and I grab his head, slamming it down on my knee.

I glance to the side to see Reed fully engaged with punching another guy. It’s like everything is happening in slow motion, but all at once.

Tommy gets up, charging forward and hitting me in the brow bone. The buzzing sensation has me thrown, I feel the blood trickling almost instantly. The motherfucker is wearing a ring.

He shoves me backwards and I collide with a table, him coming down on top of me.

“You fucking sorry piece of shit!” He screams at me, his fists pummeling into my face. I grab at his collar and bring him down closer, raising my knee into his groin. Hard.

His body tenses and I shove him off, he falls backwards from the table.
